estimation of leaf area index using irs satellite images

چکیده
estimation of vegetation cover attributes, such as the leaf area index (lai), is an important step in identifying the amount of water use for some plants. the goal of this study is to investigate the feasibility of using irs liss-iii data to retrieve lai. to get a lai retrieval model based on reflectance and vegetation index, detailed field data were collected in the study area of eastern iran. in this study, atmospheric corrected irs liss-iii imagery was used to calculate normalized difference vegetation index (ndvi). data of 50 samples of lai were measured by sun scan system – ss1 in the study area. in situ measurements of lai were related to widely use spectral vegetation indices (ndvi). the best model through analyzing the results was lai = 19.305×ndvi+5.514 using the method of linear-regression analysis. the results showed that the correlation coefficient r2 was 0.534 and rmse was 0.67. thereby, suggesting that, when using remote sensing ndvi for lai estimation, not only is the choice of ndvi of importance but also prior knowledge of plant architecture and soil background. hence, some kind of landscape stratification is required before using multi- spectral imagery for large-scale mapping of vegetation biophysical variables.

Multiscale Estimation of Leaf Area Index from Satellite Observations Based on an Ensemble Multiscale Filter
Currently, multiple leaf area index (LAI) products retrieved from remote sensing data are widely used in crop growth monitoring, land-surface process simulation and studies of climate change. However, most LAI products are only retrieved from individual satellite observations, which may result in spatial-temporal discontinuities and low accuracy in these products. In this paper, a new method wa...

Leaf area index (LAI) is one of the key parameters in crop growth monitoring and global change studies. Multiple LAI products have been generated from satellite observations, many of which suffer from data discontinuities due to persistent cloud contamination and retrieval algorithm inaccuracies. This study proposes an extended data-based mechanistic method (EDBM) for estimating LAI time series...

A key variable controlling the global carbon, water and energy cycles is the leaf area index (LAI), which thus has an important role in current biosphere-atmosphere research. Several international networks promote the development of remote sensing techniques for global assessment of LAI. متن کاملHyperspectral Vegetation Indices for Estimation of Leaf Area Index
Spectral vegetation indices are frequently used to estimate vegetation biophysical/biochemical characteristics. In general they have been proposed to reduce spectral effects caused by external factors such as the atmosphere and the soil background. This study evaluated narrow band vegetation indices for estimation of vegetation leaf area index. The study takes advantage of using a dataset colle...
متن کاملUsage of Lidar Data for Leaf Area Index Estimation
Leaf area index (LAI) can be measured either directly, using destructive methods, or indirectly using optical methods that are based on the tight relationship between LAI and canopy light transmittance. Third, innovative approach for LAI measuring is usage of remote sensing data, especially airborne laser scanning (ALS) data shows itself as a advisable source for purposes of LAI modelling in la...
